Q: What is a pre-existing condition?

A: A pre-existing condition (PEC) is a known medical condition before you start an insurance plan.
Some insurance plans cover PECs and some do not. This is a case-by-case basis. Please check with one of our agents to see if your condition will be covered.

Q: Does insurance companies cover cosmetic surgery?

A: Generally, the answer to this question is no. However, there are exceptions where plastic surgery is medically necessary, so you should consult with your physician and your agent.

Q: How long can my college aged kids stay on as dependents?

A: This is subject to state laws. For example, in California the dependent age is 26. In Texas dependents can remain on parents’ insurance until they are 25.

Q: If two parents carry insurance on a child, which is considered primary?

A: Most insurers utilize the date of birth rule. Whichever parents’ date of birth comes first in the year, then that parent is considered to carry the primary insurance. For example if a father is born in June and the mother is born in May, her insurance will be primary because her month of birth is first.

Q: Is it legal to be on your spouses’ insurance and have your own?

A: Absolutely. In many cases it is encouraged because the secondary insurance will pick up when the primary is exhausted.
